Composite fillings are tooth-coloured restorations used to fix decay, chips, cracks, and worn edges. The material bonds to enamel and dentine, allowing conservative preparation and precise shaping for comfort and strength—without the grey shadow of old amalgam.
Good to know: For larger cavities or heavily filled teeth, we may recommend an inlay/onlay or crown for added strength. (See our Indirect Restorations page.)
White Fillings are ideal if you:
Bite assessment, low-dose X-rays, and iTero® scans where helpful
A dry, clean field for longer-lasting fillings
Multi-shade layering for a believable finish
Careful bite balancing to reduce post-op sensitivity
Gentle local anaesthetic and calm, modern surroundings
Clear plans; finance available for larger work (subject to status)
We begin with a full examination, digital x-rays, and a discussion of your symptoms and goals. We’ll identify which teeth need restoration and which method is best suited to your case.
You’ll receive a custom plan that outlines your options — from small white fillings to full-coverage restorations. We explain the benefits, costs, and expected outcomes, so you feel confident in your next step.
If a filling is needed, we remove only the damaged or decayed portion of your tooth, keeping the healthy structure intact for long-term strength.
Tooth-coloured resin is applied in thin layers, sculpted, and polished to perfection. For larger issues, we may use custom inlays, onlays, or crowns for added support.
We make sure your bite feels natural and your new restoration fits seamlessly — so you can eat, speak, and smile with ease right away.
You’ll get advice on caring for your restored teeth at home and at future check-ups. With regular hygiene visits and proper care, your results can last for years.

A dental filling is a restorative material used to repair damaged tooth structure caused by cavities, cracks, or wear. It restores the tooth’s shape, strength, and function.
You may need a filling if you experience tooth sensitivity, visible dark spots or holes, pain when biting, or if an X‑ray reveals decay during a routine check-up.
Common options include amalgam (silver), composite resin (tooth‑colored), glass ionomer, ceramic, and gold. Each material offers unique benefits in terms of aesthetics, durability, and cost.
Amalgam fillings can last 10–15 years, composites about 5–10 years, ceramics around 8–10 years, gold up to 20, and glass ionomer a few years. Lifespan depends on material, tooth location, oral hygiene, and habits.
No — dentists use local anaesthetic to numb the area before treatment. You might experience mild sensitivity or soreness for a few days afterward, but this is normal.
Once the anesthesia wears off, you can resume normal eating. However, avoid very hard, sticky, hot, or cold foods for a short time to protect the new filling and reduce sensitivity.
Contact our practice promptly. While a single loose filling isn’t always an emergency, we’ll assess and repair it to prevent further issues like decay or discomfort.
